  3. Hi Miss yves here are a few examples in my language which are taken from French: Station, trottoir, dressoir, actief, misere( without accent grave), accent, mode, mannequin, interessant, etcetera and many more.... We were after all a provence( provincie in Dutch) of France for a long time!

  4. Sorry to bother you again, but what you wrote about mannequin was very interesting! I heard of it long ago but forgot about it. We still use the words"mannetje"and "manneke"( in Belgium), meaning little man.
French has always been an important language for us. I'll show you an article from my news paper, written in Dutch, in which you can find many words derived from French.
" De jaarwisseling lijkt in Nederland zonder grote incidenten te zijn verlopen. Wel was de brandweer druk met het blussen van een groot aantal kleine branden. In Zuidland, regio Rotterdam, was sprake van een confrontatie tussen 150 jongeren en de politie. In de regio werden in totaal dertig mensen aangehouden."

If you like it you can easily find those examples. Have a great new year's day!

  5. Très bien! Mais "politie"est police. Je ne parle pas allemand bien, mais je peux lire et écrire en allemand. German is different from Dutch. Some words are spelled the same way but have completely different meanings. Besides right after WW II nobody in my country wanted to speak German. Now we have no problems to speak it and the relationship is normal fortunately.Do you notice how many French words there are in English?

  6. Merci encore Miss Yves! Je ne sais pas que "tennis"était un mot français! C'est très intéressant! J'aime les langues étrangères, mais le français est toujours difficile. C'est la plus belle langue je connais mais l'anglais est plus facile. Alors... en anglais: I am an English teacher and also interested in the origines of words. I noticed that in English there are viking words too and celtic ones of course. Thank you for your most interesting comment( in Dutch "commentaar").
